Queen bed quilt pieced!

Although I haven't been blogging, I have been quilting. In bits and pieces over the past two weeks I have been piecing my bed quilt top. I finally finished it yesterday. See?

I am slightly underwhelmed at this point. I like the way it turned out, on the whole, but right now I just can't see the beauty in it. I think I need to step back from it awhile until I fall in love with it again. So... I'm going to fold it up and tuck it away till later this summer. I do think I made it big enough though, don't you?

It hits the floor on all three sides... !!

Now it's on the Quilt of Valor. (I'm having trouble linking tonight so will try and put it in tomorrow.) I'm starting with a panel by Laurel Burch from her Mystical Horses line:

I'll put a border around it using these colors and fabrics:

Right now I'm thinking several layers of color, possibly with some striping... we'll see what appears!

Wow ! Yes, it's certainly big enough and what beautiful fabrics !

You mention you were a little underwhelmed with it, so I tried to study the pics a bit to think what might make a difference. What about an applique design, in a white batik or hand dye, on the top of the quilt, and around the border. I picture something viney with flowers and leaves, maybe in a large oval outline shape for the top, and then curvy vines with smaller flowers and leaves around the borders.

Marty, don't you know that every quilter feels that way at some point about their quilt? Hey girl, it's not finished. You just wait until the quilting is put in. Then you'll be in love with it like you want to be. There are some lovely big areas just begging for fabulous quilting. It's going to be a beauty.

I love the fabric colors in the bottom picture. So bright and pure.

Rian beat me to it but I was going to suggest instead of putting it away, send it out to your quilter and when it comes back, you will be back in love. I think it is very pretty!

I love Victoria's suggestion but it sounds like a ton of work (unless you fuse the applique).
The quilting will help a lot, and bring more complexity to the top.
Your Q of V is going to be smashing!!!

The colors are wonderful. I like the fact that you left big areas where the quilter can put some wonderful designs. When she's worked her magic (whomever she is - or he is), it will appeal to you again. And it looks big enough for any bed!
